Magic In The Moonlight (2014) - Written & Directed by Woody Allen


The Story:

Stanley Crawford (Colin Firth) is a famous magician and illusionist (his stage persona is Wei Ling Soo) who's recruited by an old friend (Simon McBurney) to help unmask a possible psychic imposter, the charming Sophie Baker (Emma Stone). Sophie and her mother (Marcia Gay Harden) are guests of the very wealthy Catledges, and Brice Catledge (Hamish Linklater) is set on marrying her. Stanley thinks Sophie is a fraud and tries to expose her, but he winds up exposed himself, after a fashion.

The Skeleton Twins (2014) - Craig Johnson


The Story:

Milo (Bill Hader), an actor who's mostly making a living as a waiter in Los Angeles, has had enough of life's failures. So he scribbles a note (just "to whom it may concern"), runs a bath, and slits his wrist. Unbeknownst to him, his sister, Maggie (Kristen Wiig), a dental hygienist with whom he has hasn't been in contact for a decade, is contemplating a similar fate on the opposite coast. But she's stopped by a call informing her that Milo has been hospitalized, alive but unwell. When she invites Milo to visit her and her husband, Lance (Luke Wilson), whom Milo has never even met, in the town they both grew up in, he reluctantly accepts. It's a chance to reassess his life and repair deep hurts. The same goes for Maggie, but both of them may be far more scarred than they ever knew.

Dear Santa (2011) - Directed by Jason Priestly


The Story:

Crystal (Amy Acker) comes from a wealthy family. She loves spending her parent's money but then they decide it's time for her to make something of her life and they give her until Christmas to clean up her act. Should Crystal fail to comply, it will result in her non-essential funds being cut off. Petrified at the prospect of having no money and no boyfriend, Crystal has a flash of inspiration when she finds a letter to Santa from seven year old Olivia (Emma Duke). In the letter, Olivia asks Santa to find her widowed father Derek (David Haydn-Jones) a new wife. The owner of a local soup kitchen, Derek has dedicated his life to helping others. Though Crystal has never set foot in a soup kitchen, she soon seeks Derek out and begins volunteering her time in an effort to get closer to him. Little does Crystal realize that Derek's scheming girlfriend (Gina Holden) will do anything to keep her man to herself. Meanwhile, Crystal remains determined to prove herself, despite the obstacles that stand in her way.
